about

Houndstooth's foreboding theme music lands on wax backed with a furtive footwork remix by Fracture, marking up the 2nd issue on fabric's new spawnling.

House Of Black Lanterns is a front for Dylan Richards' (fka King Cannibal) new forays into the nether region between neurotic D&B, Chi-town mutations and noirish electronics; a proper London night music evoking images of pleasured grimace, evasive/invasive dancefloor actions and the ting/tang of good/bad drugs.

Retaining the earlier influence of DJ Krust’s sprawling drum & bass soundscapes, House of Black Lanterns sees Richards develop his sound to incorporate the dub-inflected techno textures of Rhythm & Sound whilst nodding to the catchy, yet occasionally bleak floorfillers of Trax, all inspired by the modern noir visual style of Michael Mann.

Title track ‘Truth & Loss’ repositions Chicago’s footwork sound somewhere between Bristol and Berlin, and is complimented by a D&B-meets-juke remix from Fracture. ‘Like A Warrior’ is a half-stepping collaboration with Trinidadian emcee, Juakali, whilst the EP closes with Richards’ techno take on Ghettozoid’s domination anthem ‘Boy Toy’.

On remix detail, Astrophonica boss and D&B/jUKe catalyst Fracture applies lean, trapped-out handiwork to 'Truth & Loss'.
